Congratulations to Jamie for her placement as 3rd Runner-up to Mrs. America and for winning the “Best Costume” award at the national pageant!

Jamie Cherland was crowned Mrs. Iowa-America 2012 on the evening of March 3rd at the Fitzgerald Theater in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota.  She was also honored to win the pageant’s Overall “Best in Swimsuit” Award (Iowa/Minnesota/Wisconsin) as well as being named as the runner-up for the Crutchfield Best Complexion Award (also an overall pageant award).
Jamie and her family call Algona, IA their home.  She and her husband, John, are the proud parents of their 17-month-old little boy named Cal.  They also have two other babies—Rudy, their 8.5-year-old Toy Poodle and Lulu, their 7-year-old Maltese.  Jamie feels lucky to be a stay-at-home mom to Cal and the pups, and also enjoys working as a commercial model in Minneapolis when time allows.  Jamie is originally from Lansing, Michigan and earned her B.A.A. in Broadcast and Cinematic Arts from Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant.  Jamie had several internships in the broadcasting field and also worked in the newsroom at two television stations.  After leaving television news, Jamie pursued a career in acting and modeling in Los Angeles.  She has also traveled the world working as a corporate flight attendant based in L.A., Scottsdale and Las Vegas.

While out West, Jamie discovered and fell in love with endurance sports competing in an Ironman, two half-Ironman races, two marathons and countless olympic and sprint triathlons, half-marathons, and 10k and 5k races.  She met her husband John while training for her Ironman race and they continue to make fitness a priority in their lives.  Jamie believes staying fit and eating right are two of the most important things families can do together.  Jamie loves volunteering and mentoring at kids’ triathlons as well as being a Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure volunteer.  She is currently working on bringing the Girls on the Run program to her area!  It is a life-changing learning program for girls age eight to thirteen years old.  The program combines training for a 3.1 mile running event with self-esteem enhancing workouts to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical development.
Living in Iowa has been a breath of fresh air and also a whole new way of life!  John is a native of Iowa and after getting married the couple moved back to the area where he farms corn and soybeans with his father.  Jamie has learned a lot about living in the country and the UPS driver is her best friend!  In her free time, Jamie enjoys ballroom and hip-hop dancing, as she was a member of her college dance team, the CMU Chippettes.  She also enjoys reading, sewing, arts and crafts, movie night and organizing—it’s therapeutic!  Jamie and her family travel quite often and love seeing and experiencing new things, enjoying gourmet food and wine, and turning their dreams into a reality!
